Family Empowerment Scholarship for Educational Options

There is no better time to invest in your child's education than during his or her most formative years in elementary, middle and high school - the years when faith, values and friendships are formed. At Hernando Christian Academy, teachers are committed to each child by helping to build a strong academic and spiritual foundation.

Family Empowerment Scholarship for Unique Abilities

This branch of the Family Empowerment Scholarship Program is designed to offer families of students with disabilities, as young as 3 years of age, access to additional education options. Families may choose to enroll their student in another public school, or they may take the opportunity to receive a personal education savings account (ESA) for their student. With an ESA, parents receive a deposit of public funds into government-authorized savings accounts with restricted, but multiple, uses. An ESA can be used to fund not only items such as private school tuition and fees, but also online learning programs, private tutoring, community college costs, higher education expenses and other approved customized learning services and materials. Families apply and annually renew for participation in FES UA through one of the approved SFOs, which are responsible for determining eligibility, awarding and distributing funding to eligible student accounts, and approving eligible expenditures.

To expand educational opportunities for children of families that have limited financial resources and to enable children in this state to achieve a greater level of excellence in their education, the Florida Legislature created the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program in 2001. A student is eligible for a scholarship from a nonprofit scholarship funding organization through this program if the student is on the direct certification list, or the student’s household income level does not exceed 400 percent of the federal poverty level; or if the student is currently placed, or during the previous state fiscal year was placed, in foster care. Scholarship amounts may be obtained by contacting a scholarship funding organization directly.

Financial Aid is offered through Hernando Christian Academy. Click the button to apply.

 Commonly Asked Questions

Why choose a private Christian school?

We believe that a school's ultimate purpose should be to equip children to understand the truth about life, the world, and their place in it.

We also believe that in order to understand these truths, the deeper questions regarding the meaning and purpose of life cannot be ignored. The curriculum of public education cannot guide students through these deeper questions of life, and it cannot use the Word of God as it's standard of truth. Christian Schools, on the other hand, seek to equip students to recognize the Lordship of Christ in all subject areas of learning and to respond in obedience to His call to be transforming influences in society.

Secondly, not only does a school shape a child's mind, but one also cannot ignore the impact that a school has on the heart of a child. All schools have a vision for the kind of person they want their students to become. In other words, schools do not only teach information they also seek to educate the emotions and influence the living actions of a child's life. The power a school has to impress a worldview on a youngster is great.

The goal of Christian education is to guide children towards an understanding that God is at the center of every pursuit of knowledge. Not only that, Christian schools also strive to challenge students towards allowing God to mold their hearts in submission to Him, and in doing that, they equip them to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ in the world. There is no greater purpose for a school than to guide students towards embracing the world in this way.
